August 12th marks the end of the 2010 Urban Harvest season. It just happened to be the hottest, muggiest market day. Thanks to all who made it happen. Here’s an overview:

The Veteran’s Memorial Library held the audience captive with great stories and puppet show. We always love to see the large groups of children holding hands in the buddy system as they make their way to Children’s Hour each week. The kids are always respectful, engaged, courteous. Thank you to all the groups that brought children down to participate!

Kris Kitko joined us for the noon performace. Thank you Kris for your dedication to music, educating kids, and volunteering your time. We so appreciate it!

The finale of Urban Idol was exciting with tough competition and talented kids. Check out the pictures of the seven finalists of the 2010 season!

    And the winners are:

11 yrs old and under: Brittan Grub

12yrs old to 17yrs old: Summer

Trifecta and The Dedbeats rounded out the evening.

Another fantastic market occurred today with Northern Plains Dance performing for children’s hour and Grady Jackson at noon. Open mic hour was jam packed with talented young ones willing to put aside their fear and show their talents on the Urban Harvest stage. The last Urban Idol before the finale showcased more local talent – two of which will advance to the final performance on August 12th. The crowd really enjoyed Karen and Duane Ehrens’ fresh cooking demo which featured produce from our local farmer’s market. The McMahon Brothers (sans Phil avec Pat Phillips) and Human Capital finished up the evening. Thanks to everyone who volunteered, performed, participated, and visited Urban Harvest today!!

  • 2nd Market – July 15th

Thanks to everyone who came out to our second market of the season. Here’s an overview of the fun!
Sara Hilden, from New Discovery Montessori, led Children’s Hour with a lot of different Montessori inspired activities.

    Thanks Ms. Sara!!

We also have books to give away and hula hoops and jump ropes to play with while at the market. Feel free to take a book or two!

Our lunch hour performance was Sarah McMahon and Laura Knudsen. Beautiful girls singing beautiful tunes.

How nice would it be to have a beautiful green space in downtown Bismarck? Thought we’d give it a try!

Urban Idol is back with Host Kris Kitko! Thanks to all our participants!

Becky Schnabel gave a fantastic lecture on composting for this week’s Wellness Hour. Thank you, Becky!

The day was capped off with performances by The John Krueger Quartet and The Vexed.

Thank you all for joining us on our first market of the 2010 season! It was filled with excitement, music, and wonderful entertainment. The weather was perfect, too!

Numerous student and daycare groups joined us for Gateway to Science Children’s hour. The children were so well behaved and we look forward to their return for future children’s hour. In future weeks, we will be having lego building, used book give aways, music with Luke Graner, and Montesorri inspired activities. Please visit our entertainment page to view a complete schedule.

Thanks to the Wanek family for supplying us with fun activities for the kids including hula hoops, bubbles, and jump ropes. We also always have sidewalk chalk to inspire the young artisan.

Lunch options usually include The Walrus Restaurant, Dakota Deli, Indian Tacos, Steep me a Cup, and Camly Cuisine. This week, we happily hosted Ben Suchy on the noon stage.

Sleepy Hollow will open their production of Annie later in July. Their performance at Urban Harvest is an added benefit to our afternoon lineup.

A huge thank you to Blind Mice and The Midnight Noise Orchestra for starting off the 2010 Season of Urban Harvest!
